Overview

Come to the core of the city, to where it all started 2,000 years ago, enjoy its charming corners and squares hidden away down ancient narrow streets with the help of our expert guide. Walk around emblematic places such as the Cathedral of Barcelona and other important squares along this walking tour.

Cathedral of Barcelona: The Gothic Cathedral was started in the 13th Century and finished 6 centuries later. We’ll also show you the remains of the Roman Wall at Plaça Ramon Berenguer.

Pont Del Bisbe: This beautiful bridge has become one of the most famous in Barcelona. Make sure you take a picture since it has also become one of the most photographed places in Barcelona.

Plaça Del Rei: (King’s Square): a medieval marvel with the Tower of King Martí, 5 floors high which was built in 1555; Santa Àgata’s chapel (15th Century) and the Saló del Tinell (1359-1362). It is said that the Catholic monarchs, Fernando and Isabel, received Columbus here on his return from America.

Plaça Sant Jaume: This Square is the centre of the city’s political activity with the City Hall facing the Palau de la Generalitat, the place of the Autonomous Catalan Government. Historically, the city’s two major Roman roads crossed here: the Cardo and the Decumanus.

Virtual Reality: During the walking tour you will make 3 stops to travel back in time to Roman age and have a better understanding of the origins of the city. For that you will observe the streets with virtual reality glasses. What you will see?

·         First stop: The Roman Tinctoria: where fabrics were dyed –  an important business, as the colour of one’s clothes was an signifier of Rank or role in Roman society.

·         Second stop: Temple de Augustus: The forum -a large public square- stood at the centre of urban life in Roman Barcelona. Our guides will explain you secrets that happen in its interior.

·         Third stop: Roman wall & Moncada Aqueduct: As an important hub of trade, Roman “Barcino” was protected by impressive city walls and watered by the Moncada aqueduct. You will see how these constructions originally were. This infrastructure was carried out by using water tanks and wells and two aqueducts that brought the water from the river Besòs and from the Collserola mountain. Both aqueducts got together and converged on the Roman wall in the Gothic Quarter. Enjoy this city with us.
