An adventure in nature, with magnificent landscapes, natural richness, biological, geological, archaeological and historical … all in one itinerary. Where gastronomy is also included, namely the conventual sweets.
The day starts with a real test of endurance, eight and a half kilometers in full nature in the Paiva river valley. Observe the biodiversity of the place, be dazzled by the Cascade das Aguieiras and if you want, cool off in the clear waters. After a brief rest during lunch, we left for the Museum of Giant Trilobites, marine beings that inhabited our planet 500 million years ago. Here you can see the largest Trilobite fossil in the world.
Our journey continues towards the village of Arouca, a town that was born around its Monastery, founded in the 19th century. X. We will visit the Monastery and the Museum of Sacred Art inserted in it. Another short break to get to know the regional sweets.
The next destination is Serra da Freita, also known as Serra Encantada. From the top of the viewpoints of Detrelo da Malhada and São Pedro o Velho, we can see the surrounding landscapes, such as the mountain villages, the village of Arouca, the Vale do Rio Paiva, the city of Porto, the Ria de Aveiro and the sea. We will visit the Interpretative Center of Pedras Parideiras, enigmatic rocks. They are a rare geological phenomenon, stones that spring from a granitic mother rock.
To say goodbye to Serra da Freita and end the day, nothing better than to contemplate the Frecha da Mizarela. A waterfall over 70 meters high, one of the highest in Europe. Enjoy this city with us.
