Douro river is the 2nd biggest crossing Portugal. It joins the sea at Porto, but before that, upstream at the country interior region an mountainous formation takes place along the river making the best environment to grow the grapes of Port Wine. It is the oldest demarcated vineyard area in the world! This region starts roughly at 100 km distance from Porto city, is distinguished as natural heritage by UNESCO, and is one of the most remarkable landscapes of Portugal. Today stands as one of the country’s most pleasant regions to visit, where you can easily find a balance between nature, countryside and elegance.
We will make a stop in Amarante (for some, one of the most “romantic” cities in Portugal), to have a small walk by the river and enjoy the set – Medieval bridge, Catholic basilic, Old city.
Then we continue to Régua, the entrance to the harvest region of Douro. After lunch and some sightseeing, we continue to Pinhão already surrounded by vineyards. It’s here that we will visit a producer and have a taste on some Ports. Also will be here our boat ride (1h) in this beautiful cenary provided by the Douro river. Enjoy this city with us.
