We will leave Santander at 9:30 am towards Puente Viesgo, a beautiful small village next to El Castillo mount which has four caves with Palaeolithic art declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 2008. Here we will have the opportunity to visit two real caves with cave art: El Castillo and Las Monedas caves.
El Castillo cave contains one of the oldest paintings in the world, dated at least 40.800 years ago. Las Monedas cave contains designs drawn in charcoal dated about 12,000 years ago. It also has an important geologic value due to its geological formations.
After we will visit the new Rupestrian Art Centre of Puente Viesgo and we will learn a bit more about cave art in Cantabria.
