This was a lovely way to spend late a afternoon and early evening. Campo Ourique is not a district we would have seen and has a wonderful collection of food. Rodrigo was passionate engaging and knowledgeable guide. We went hungry, which is the right plan, and as we moved through the area from aperitif to dessert we learned a great deal about the food and also Portugal itself. From a food perspective it is all good but the highlights for us were the aperitif in the park, the tuna steak, the chocolate cake and a lovely pastel de nata. We chose to get a couple of glasses of wine and were helped with our choices and it was all excellent. We thoroughly recommend this tour.
We really enjoyed this tour with John, our guide. He was very knowledgeable about both Portuguese food and history, and was able to tie them together so we better understood how the different types of Portuguese food evolved over time. The tour is very food-centric; most of the time is spent tasting and talking about food, which is exactly what we were looking for. There is some walking from place to place but it is not primarily a walking tour.

Excellent Private Tour
Driver arrived on time at 9:00 AM. We headed to Obidos first. The drive there was long, but our driver kept us engaged in good conversations on many subjects.
Once we arrived at Obidos, the charm and beauty of this historic neighborhood comes alive. There is a main street were most of the vendors are located, that begins at the parking lot.
We stopped for sweets and Ginja in chocolate cups.
Stopped at a shop that made fresh bread right in the front of their shop.
Our tour guide was extremely knowledgable about Obidos, and we appreciated his guiding us away from the crowd for most of our tour - there are hidden panoramic views not to be missed.
The day continued to Mafra, where an exquisite castle filled with a rich history, delivered while walking inside.
Excellent Private Tour
Absolutely loved the tour and the entire day spent with John. He was friendly, had a wealth of information not just about the tour but also in general. He was very flexible in terms of time. The small walled town of Obidos was lovely and the Mafra palace was simply stunning. I would recommend JOHN , totally worth it!
