New Cathedral
New Cathedral

The New Cathedral (German: Neuer Dom), also known as the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (German: Mariä-Empfängnis-Dom; Mariendom), is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in Linz, Austria. The neo-Gothic church is the largest, though not the tallest church in Austria. Construction plans were started in 1855 by Bishop Franz-Josef Rudigier. The first stone was laid on 1 May 1862—an event solemnised by the performance of Anton Bruckner's Festive Cantata Preiset den Herrn.

Bischofshof

The bishop's residence is one of the most important secular Baroque buildings in the city. Commissioned by Kremsmünster monastery (1721 -1726), it was built by Michael Pruckmayr according to plans by Jakob Prandtauer, who was also responsible for the monasteries in Melk and St. Florian.

The Landhaus is a large complex consisting of three courtyards and a gate through which one can reach the waterfront. In one of the courtyards you can find the "Fountain of the Planets" in memory of Johannes Kepler. Summer classical music concerts are held in the courtyard.
By the way, at the beginning of this century, the remains of a medieval cemetery and a baroque bridge were found during the construction of the underground parking lot on the waterfront. It can now be seen next to the Landhaus.

Mozarthaus is a Renaissance building in the old town of Linz. It was built in the second half of the 16th century, the outer facade was redesigned in the Baroque period.
